Indian River is located on beautiful Inland Waterway connecting several lakes and this cottage is conveniently close to two public boat launches. The closest being across the Indian River, which puts you half way between Burt Lake and Mullet Lake. The other launch is in the Burt Lake State Park, which is on the south end of Burt lake. Tour the many lakes and rivers connected to the Inland Waterway or catch some of the many types of fish found here. The options on the water are plentiful.
Devoe Beach and the Burt Lake State Park are our two favorite beaches on Burt Lake. Devoe Beach also has a wonderful pier to walk, fish and take stunning photos from. Plan some time to enjoy the famed sunsets from the Beach or the pier.
The Indian River Golf Club is located down the street. Play a round at this course which meanders through the woods and be back in time to enjoy the rest of your day at the beach!
The Sturgeon River offers great river rafting tours. Take a kayak, float on a tube or pack the family in a large raft. The Sturgeon river is a fast flowing, remote trip that’s sure to keep you cool on a hot summer day.
Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Cheboygan, Mackinaw City and Gaylord are all 30 minutes away. These towns offer great dining, shopping and plenty of family activities. As for winter activities, Nubs Nob and Boyne Highlands are located in Harbor Springs, our favorite destinations when the snow is flying.
Finish the day with a walk into town for a meal or an ice cream. Indian River is quiet, peaceful and has so much to offer which is the reason our family has been coming here for over 50 years.

It sits on a 5 acre parcel with 3 other units (Lem’s Paradise, Lem’s #2, Little Lems) featuring 335′ of frontage on Lake Huron. Perfect for a romantic getaway. It also makes a great gathering place for family reunions and if all units are booked, it can sleep a total of 18. There is plenty of parking for boats and recreational vehicles. It sits on a beautifully landscaped 5 acre lawn with lots of room to roam. Swim (yes it has a sandy beach but still has the typical Lake Huron rocks so bring water shoes), nightly campfires on the waterfront, horseshoes in the yard. We see lots of wildlife – deer, fox, coyote and very recently a black bear! The park-like atmosphere will beckon you to enjoy your meals outside on the picnic table. It has a full kitchen and all the necessary supplies but you might want to cook burgers or dogs on the grill just outside your door. It’s a quick 5 minutes to Mackinaw City and all it has to offer. Hop on a ferry for a ride to the popular Mackinac Island and take a trip back in time. Enjoy a Starbucks coffee and try the zipline in town. There is plenty of shopping and dining in town or head to Cheboygan – about a 10 minute drive in the opposite direction. Shop or dine at the many options available to you. Rent a boat in Cheboygan and take the Inland Waterway tour through a chain of lakes. Bring your bikes because there is a 60 mile trail across the road from the properties that will take you all the way to Gaylord if you want or a quick 5 mile trip to Mackinaw City. This is a great base camp for all of your Northern Michigan adventures.

Short Property Description
The property sits on 10 grassy and wooded acres on Lake Michigan. We are secluded, you won’t see another house from the cottage, but we’re located just 5-6 miles from town. Not too close, yet not too far away.
Summers are pretty lazy and carefree. This is a great place for a family (or a few families) to reconnect. Sit around by the water, play games, read a good book (or 2), or enjoy ‘smores over an evening campfire. Although located on 10 acres of Lake Michigan waterfront, this is not a great swimming beach. There are some nice sandy beaches on the Island for swimming.
St. James beach is a short trip from the cottage. You can buzz into town for a coffee. ice cream cone or a drink without draining your wallet. You can also go for a swim or spend the afternoon at the beach. There is always something going on. Take a trip to the bottom of the island and set out on a beach hike or just enjoy the beach. If you are looking for relaxation or a little adventure, this Island has it all.
Most people don’t know this but September is a wonderful time to come to Beaver Island. The weather is perfect and the colors are spectacular!
The cottage features 3 bedrooms plus a hide-a-bed. One of the bedrooms is on the first floor. The cottage has 2 full bathrooms, there is a nice family area and kitchen with stainless steel appliances. We have a fire pit and a beach house. There is a nice deck with a picnic table that seats about 10. The cottage comes with plenty of fans if you need them but if you open the windows you will be treated to a very nice breeze that keeps the house very comfortable in the summer.
Beaver Island is the most remote inhabited island in the Great Lakes, located in Lake Michigan about 30 miles north of Charlevoix.
There are fine museums, gift shops, art galleries, a golf course and tennis courts, Island tours, house parties, classes at CMU, and dances and plays at the Hall. Much of what the island offers is free: beach combing, bird watching, biking, camping, hunting, fishing, x-c skiing, or exploring the other islands. There are over 100 miles of scenic roads, and too many trails to count.
You may come to the island by ferry service from Charlevoix, charter boat, or airplane.
Getting to the Island:
Two businesses provide regular air transportation between Charlevoix and the island. The trip takes about 15 minutes each way, and both carriers make several trips daily, based on passenger reservations.
Fresh Air Aviation – (231)237-9482 or (888)359-7448. Island Airways (231)547-2141 (Charlevoix).
Beaver Island Boat Company, Charlevoix – (231)547-2311 or (888)446-4095. A 2-hour ferry ride to the island from Charlevoix. Call them for prices. Bicycles cost extra. Ferries run daily from June to Mid-September (usually one crossing per day, but up to four times on peak travel days), with a reduced schedule (at least M/W/F) beginning in April and ending in mid-December. The vessel, Emerald Isle, is used for most journeys and is wheelchair accessible.
Car ferry service from Charlevoix is available from Beaver Island Boat Company (see above). Prices vary. You must make reservations to ensure a spot on the boat for your vehicle. Number to call is (231)547-2311.

The location is so perfect to enjoy Northern Michigan. Situated minutes from Mackinaw City, the Mackinac Bridge, St. Ignace (the gateway to the Upper Peninsula) Cheboygan, the beautiful Inland Waterway, Les Cheneaux Islands, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Good Hart, and Charlevoix – the list goes on and on! The fall colors are unbeatable and there are lots of opportunities for viewing them. Organized bike rides, road races for runners and winery and brewery tours are very popular.
If winter sports are your thing, you are in the heart of it! Winter is so enjoyable here – ice fishing is very popular, and hundreds of miles of groomed snow mobile and cross-country ski trails and ski lodges are just minutes away. There is always something going on – ice boat races, chili cook-offs and annual Petoskey and Harbor Springs open houses in early December. Golf, fish, boat, swim, ski, hike, bike, antiquing, casinos, winery/brewery tours. What’s your pleasure?
If you love biking, the North Western State Trail can be accessed through Carp Lake and passes through many communities along the way, including Conway, Oden, Ponshewaing, Brutus, Pellston, and Levering. In 2018, the scenic route was recognized with a National Recreation Trail designation.
The spring and fall are great for bird watching – especially the hawk migration in early spring. We’ve personally witnessed it and it takes your breath away to see the hundreds of raptors circling the sky to make their annual crossing of the Straits of Mackinac.
Join us as guests and make this a memorable vacation spot that you will want to return to over and over again!
